Hoboken, N.J. – The Stevens Institute of Technology men's swim team was knocked off by Montclair State University 155.5 – 106.5 on Friday.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Ducks opened the meet with a commanding win in the 200 medley relay, as
Ethan Emerton,
Angel Velasquez,
Deo Bove, and
Will Stibor combined for a time of 1:36.46. Stibor went on to sweep the sprint freestyle events, taking the 50 freestyle in 21.94 and the 100 freestyle in 48.31.
Velasquez delivered one of the top swims of the day in the 100 backstroke, touching first in 54.07. He later added a runner-up finish in the 200 breaststroke at 2:12.20.
Lukas Mikulenas powered to a win in the 100 breaststroke (59.83) and followed with a second-place showing in the 200 breaststroke (2:13.69). Emerton led Stevens in the distance events, finishing third in the 1000 freestyle (10:31.55) before placing third again in the 200 IM with a 2:06.15.
Additional top performances included
Niall Easton placing fourth in the 200 freestyle (1:50.13) and fifth in the 100 freestyle (50.43), Bove finishing second in the 100 butterfly (52.83) and fifth in the 200 freestyle (1:50.21), and
Kyle Phillips tying for fourth in the 200 butterfly (2:07.24). Stevens wrapped up the meet with a strong second-place showing in the 400 freestyle relay, as Velasquez, Bove, Easton, and Stibor recorded a time of 3:17.63.
