HOBOKEN, N.J. – All five starters for the Stevens Institute of Technology men's basketball team had at least 12 points in an 84-69 win for the Ducks over New Jersey City University (NJCU) on Wednesday night in a Hudson County showdown.

Harmehar Chhabra, Tommy Scholl, and Kyle Maddison all had 16 to lead Stevens (3-0), with both Chhabra and Scholl pulling down seven rebounds. Evan Gutkowski posted his second straight double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds, Anthony Loscalzo rounded out the double-digit starting five, and Matt Leming added nine points off the bench.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Stevens opened a 14-8 lead just past five minutes gone, with Scholl leading the way with 10 points on a 4-for-5 clip including 2-for-3 from beyond the arc. After two Chhabra layups and a Maddison free throw, Leming knocked down a three and Brendan Coughlan floated one in, putting the Ducks up 24-12. NJCU Cut the lead in half, but a Chhabra jumper and another Leming three helped the Ducks keep the Gothic Knights at bay.

Five straight points from Maddison put the Ducks up 36-24, but NJCU cut the deficit down ton five, 36-31, with under two minutes left. Two Gutkowski free throws and six more from Maddison put the Ducks up 10, 44-34 at the half. Each team made 15 field goals in the opening 20, but Stevens made four more threes and six more free throws.

The teams traded baskets through the first 6+ minutes of the second half, Stevens' lead fluctuating between six and 11. The Ducks slowly pushed the lead all the out to 19, 70-51, at the 8:13 mark, but NJCU shaved six points off in just over a minute, and pulled as close as nine, 76-67 at the 3:44 mark, Anthony Loscalzo and Scholl each added another three to the Ducks' team total of 12, as the Red and Gray picked up their third straight win to kick off the 2025-26 season.
