HOBOKEN, N.J. – Stevens Institute of Technology's women's volleyball team closed out the 2025 regular season Friday night with a Senior Night sweep of New Paltz, winning 25-22, 25-17, 25-13, the team's seventh sweep in nine matches heading into the MAC Freedom Tournament starting next week.
Prior to the match, the team honored
Mallory Eder,
Vivian Lisboa, and
Paulina Miller for their contributions to the program over the last four years.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Stevens (20-9) took a pair of three-point leads early in the opening set (4-1 and 9-6), but the Hawks reeled off three straight each time to tie. After the Ducks went back in front 11-9, the teams traded the lead back and forth, the score eventually reaching 18-16 in favor of the Hawks. From there, the teams traded mini-spurts back and forth, with a 20-18 Stevens lead becoming a 21-20 New Paltz lead, which became a 23-21 Stevens lead. The Hawks closed to within 23-22, but back-to-back kills gave the Ducks the early advantage; Lisboa,
Alyssa O'Neal,
Ella Boland,
Eva Tarolli, and
Sarah Bolduc all had multiple kills in the set for the Ducks, Tarolli putting away four to lead the way.
The Ducks took early control of the second set, opening a 10-4 lead. New Paltz worked back to 10-7 then 13-10, but the Ducks took the next five points, pushing the margin back out to eight. The Hawks trimmed things back to 19-14, but two separate three-point runs for the Ducks put them up two sets to none. The Ducks had seven service aces in the frame, four from Boland, including back-to-back to close out the set; Lisboa led all Ducks with four kills.
Trailing 9-7 in the third set, Stevens quickly took back control with seven of the next eight points, jumping out in front 14-10. After a brief back and forth, with the score 17-12, Stevens all but closed things out with another five-point run, then put on the finishing touches with three straight to close out, including back-to-back service aces from
Ella Kraver. Lisboa again led all Ducks with four kills in the set as the team hit .294 in the frame, a match-high for either team in any set.
