Women's Basketball Falls to No. 2 Scranton

Scranton, Pa. – The Stevens Institute of Technology women's basketball team dropped a non-conference affair to No. 2 Scranton, 76-32, on Monday night, ending the team's three-game winning streak.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Stevens (5-2) started slow with one field goal in a three-point first quarter, but multiple players found their way onto the stat sheet in the second. Maya Abramson started things with a jumper and Leyla Castro, who had the Ducks' lone basket in the first quarter (a three-pointer) added a second one several possessions later. After another Castro jumper, this of the two-point variety, CeeJay Thomas hit two free throws before Castro hit her second three of the period and third of the game. Dorothy Loffredo added the final two of the Ducks' 14 points with a late jumper, though the Royals (7-0) held a 20+ point lead at halftime.

Castro opened the team's second half scoring with yet another three, with Fiona O'Boyle and Abramson each adding layups for the team's third quarter output. In the fourth, Sugar Williams, Katherine Bogutsky, and Emily Marinelli added a field goal each for the Ducks, Marinelli hitting one from three-point territory.

  • Isabella Curanovic grabbed three rebounds and handed out an assist in just four minutes
  • Maja Skopic matched her season-high with three rebounds in just five minutes
