Staten Island, N.Y. – First-year
Markus Soennichsen broke the program record in the 600 meters, leading a personal record-filled Friday for the Stevens Institute of Technology men's track & field team at the Seahawk Shootout.
The event featured no team scoring and featured D-I, D-II and D-III competition from throughout the Northeast including Sacred Heart, Saint Francis, Wagner, New Haven, Howard, FDU, St. John's, Felician, and NJIT, among others.
INSIDE THE MEET
Soennichsen completed the three laps around the track in 1:23.23, 1.6 seconds faster than the previous mark set by Rob Leiser on December 1, 2018. Classmate
Christopher Reyes ran 1:26.12, inserting himself into fifth place in program history in the event.
Sophomore
William Ladd and first-year
Konstantinos Georgiadis kicked off the day's action in the 60-meter hurdles, with each setting PRs. Ladd ran 8.72 (previous PR was 8.82) and Georgiadis ran 9.51 (previous PR was 9.55).
Juniors
Doug Winant and
Chase Kosiba followed with PRs in the 60 meters, each also establishing Top 10 times in program history. Winant ran a flat 7.00, second-fastest all-time, and Kosiba ran 7.23, good for 9
th in program history. Classmate
George Maroun also set a new PR with a 7.38, 0.06 second faster than his previous top time.
The 300 meters also saw two new times added to the program's Top 10 list, with first-year
Steven Longo running 36.35 (4
th) and classmate
Ian Rodriguez running 36.81 (10
th). Senior
Connor Robinson just missed the Top 10 with a 36.84, but did set a new PR by nearly eight-tenths of a second.
The 4x200 relay team of junior
Tyler Hackett, Winant, Kosiba, and Robinson clocked a time of 1:32.04, second-fastest in program history.
Three field events yielded six new PRs and three Top 5 all-time program marks. First-year
Kane Perry went 14.74 meters in the shot put, .33 meters further than his previous top mark set last weekend at the Crowell Invite, inching closer to a Top 2 mark in program history. Seniors
Cooper Kinsley (13.66 meters),
Manny Vega (12.85 meters), and
Jimmy Johnson (11.97 meters) all set PRs in the weight throw. In the high jump, sophomore
William Ladd and first-year
Jonathan Mordi both cleared 1.95 meters, tied for second in program history.
UP NEXT
Both the men's and women's teams will return to official competition at the Alvernia Winter Invitational in Reading, Pa. on Saturday, January 17, 2026.
