Women's Basketball Tripped Up At Arcadia

Glenside, Pa. – The Stevens Institute of Technology women's basketball team fell to Arcadia University 72-59 in Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom action on Wednesday night.

Leyla Castro, who played all 40 minutes, tallied 15 points and 12 rebounds for Stevens (12-8, 6-3 MAC Freedom).

HOW IT HAPPENED
Stevens opened the game on a 10-2 run, with Olivia Schubiger, Lucy Alberici, and Audrey Kehoe notching baskets during the spurt. Castro polished off the run with a three-pointer on a fastbreak. The Knights countered with the following five markers before a Castro triple and a Dorothy Loffredo jumper extended the lead back to seven. Arcadia closed out the first with a three-pointer from Mara Weaver, and Stevens entered the second with a four-point lead.

Alberici and Loffredo converted jumpers early in the second quarter to push the score to eight at 21-13, but Arcadia fought back and got within three with 5:26 left. A Castro layup and a three-pointer by Isabella Duval got the gap back to eight as Arcadia went scoreless for nearly four minutes. Duval's triple with one second left on the clock sent Stevens into the half leading 35-29.

An Audrey Kehoe layup started second-half scoring, but the home side used an 8-0 run to tie the game 37, keeping the Ducks off the scoreboard for almost four minutes. After trading points, the Knights grabbed their first lead of the game with 4:03 left in the third and took a slim three-point edge into the fourth quarter.

The Knights reeled off the first four points of the fourth before Schubiger halted the rally with a jumper. Arcadia took their then-biggest advantage of the night with a three-pointer with 6:16 to go, countered by a Castro triple on the ensuing possession. Stevens closed to within five after a three from Castro with 40 ticks left, but Arcadia converted eight consecutive free throws to claim the win.
