Softball Topped by DePauw, Gettysburg

Columbus, Ga. – The Stevens Institute of Technology softball team was knocked off by DePauw University and Gettysburg College during day two of the NFCA Leadoff Classic on Saturday.

The Ducks (0-6) fell 15-7 to DePauw before dropping an 8-0 decision to Gettysburg.

HOW IT HAPPENED
After the Tigers got on the board with a run in the second and two in the third, the Ducks were able to tie the contest at three in the home half of the frame. Allison Mitloff and Emma Quattrochi led off with singles before Kyra Fischer stepped up and drilled a home run, leveling the contest at three.

The Tigers responded, putting two additional tallies in the fourth and one more in the fifth. DePauw was able to hold the Ducks scoreless through the fourth and fifth, allowing no baserunners and setting down six straight. DePauw extended their lead in the top of the sixth, plating three additional runs.

Carmelita Murphy-Brown reached on a one-out single in the sixth but was stranded after a groundout and strikeout. The Tigers broke the game open in the seventh, putting up six runs on four hits. Stevens battled back as Ella Tozduman, Mitloff, and Quattrochi walked. Three runs crossed the plate on an error before Madison Subbiondo brought Fischer home with a single.

Gettysburg pitcher Paige Forry tossed a perfect game against the Ducks, retiring all 15 batters she faced. The Bullets scored three runs in each of the first and second frames while adding two runs in the third.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Quattrochi went 2-for-3 with two runs scored against DePauw.
  • Mitloff, Quattrochi, and Fischer scored two runs each against the Tigers.
  • Tozduman struck out two in her four innings in the circle against Gettysburg.
UP NEXT
The Ducks close out the NFCA Leadoff Classic on Sunday, taking on the University of Chicago at 9 am and LaGrange College at 11 am.
