Smart and Leiby Combine for 13 Points for No. 20 Women's Lacrosse in 15-7 Win Over Haverford

Guzowski Gets First Win in First Start in Goal

HOBOKEN, N.J. – The No. 20 Stevens Institute of Technology women's lacrosse team reeled off four-goal runs in the first and fourth quarters in a 15-7 win over Haverford Wednesday evening at the DeBaun Athletic Complex.

Emily Squared (Emily Leiby and Emily Smart) finished with 13 combined points, Stefanie Sellitto finished with four goals for her third hat trick of the year, Maddie Hogan had two goals, and Alina Friz had two points to lead the Stevens (3-1) attack.

The Ducks dominated controls, finishing with a 21-5 advantage, grabbing all five in the first quarter and all eight in the third quarter; both Sellitto (nine) and Leiby (seven) finished with more than the entire Haverford (4-1) team.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Both teams were scoreless through the opening seven minutes, but the Ducks took control early with a three-goal spurt in less than tww minutes. First, it was Leiby who scored on the first player-up opportunity of the game off a feed from Smart. Just 40 seconds late, the two swapped places with Leiby feeding Smart. 62 seconds later, Rebecca Guerra converted a free-position opportunity. Haverford had two good looks just before and just after the 3:00 mark, but a free-position attempt sailed wide and Emma Guzowski turned away an on-target attempt just seconds later. On the ensuing Stevens possession, Sellitto made it 4-0 with her first of the day.

Haverford got one back in the first minute of the second quarter and had three more shots on goal in the following five minutes, but Guzowski kept them all out of the net. Sellitto and Leiby each added their second of the game, both off assists from Smart, but Haverford answered each, keeping the game within three, 6-3, at the half.

Leiby found Smart for the first goal of the second half, but back-to-back Fords goals closed the margin to 7-5. Stevens came right back with goals from Sellitto and Maddie Hogan less than a minute apart, then Hogan added her second at the 7:08 mark, opening a 10-5 lead for Stevens, drawing a timeout from the Haverford sideline. The Fords pulled within 10-6 at the end of the quarter but drew no closer.

Allison Lax, Leiby, and Sellitto all scored in the first five minutes of the fourth quarter, helping the Ducks push their lead out to 13-6. Friz and Leiby added goals late as the Ducks closed out the commanding win.
