Center Valley, Pa. – The Stevens Institute of Technology women's lacrosse team dominated with a 13-goal first half en route to a 20-2 victory over DeSales University, remaining unbeaten in Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom play on Wednesday.
Maddie Hogan netted five goals for the Ducks (10-4, 5-0 MAC Freedom), while Michaela Regan made 15 saves in net for DeSales (13-2, 3-2 MAC Freedom).
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Ducks opened the game with an explosive first quarter, jumping out to a 6-0 lead. Hogan tallied three goals in the opening frame, while
Stefanie Sellitto,
Rebecca Guerra, and
Emily Smart each added one. Stevens' defense was equally impressive, holding DeSales scoreless and forcing multiple turnovers, with key takeaways from
Lindsay Esposito and
Emily Leiby.
Stevens continued its offensive surge in the second quarter, outscoring DeSales 7-0. Hogan completed her four-goal, first-half performance, while
Abby O'Brien scored twice in the period.
Alison Lax, Sellitto, Smart, and
Anna Velardi also found the back of the net, with Smart and Leiby contributing multiple assists. The Ducks dominated possession, winning all seven draws in the quarter and limiting DeSales to just one shot.
In the third quarter, the Ducks allowed their first two goals of the game but responded with five of their own. Sellitto, Smart, Hogan, and Leiby each scored, and Guerra added a man-down goal off a feed from
Elise Hensley. Stevens kept the pressure on both ends of the field, continuing to win draws and force turnovers to maintain control. The Ducks added two more goals in the fourth quarter, with Friz and Velardi capping the scoring.
