GLENSIDE, Pa. – The No. 20 Stevens Institute of Technology women's lacrosse team posted a commanding 21-4 victory over Arcadia Wednesday evening in the team's Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom opener.
Stefanie Sellitto outscored the Knights, finishing with five goals and a season-high seven points,
Emily Leiby finished with three goals and six points,
Anna Velardi and
Emily Smart combined for three goals and eight points, and the trio of
Quincy Connell,
Alison Murray, and
Tory Seaton all tallied two goals each.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Connell scored both of her goals in transition for Stevens (6-4, 1-0 MACF) off Arcadia (6-5, 0-1 MACF) turnovers in the first three minutes, her first goals of the season. 90 seconds after Connell's second, Sellitto made it 3-0 off a feed from Smart, who made it 4-0 at the 8:16 mark off a feed from Leiby.
After Arcadia got on the board just past the midway point of the opening 15, Sellitto and
Maddie Hogan made it 6-1 with goals less than 30 seconds apart, the Knights answered back with two straight of their own, and Murray beat the end-of-quarter buzzer, finding the back of the net with 2.7 seconds remaining.
Leiby opened the second quarter scoring just past a minute in, the final goal for either side before a lightning strike temporarily halted play just north of four minutes gone in the period.
After play resumed,
Anna Velardi and Sellitto (off a Velardi assist) completed her hat trick, putting Stevens up 10-3 with 8:57 left in the quarter. The Ducks' dominance continued the rest of the half as Sellitto, Smart, Murray, and Seaton all scored for the Red and Gray while goalkeeper
Emma Guzowski kept Arcadia off the board in the quarter, thanks in large part to a free-position attempt save.
Stevens tacked on another seven unanswered goals in the second half before Arcadia ended a 40+ minute scoring drought late in the fourth quarter. Sellitto, Leiby (twice), Seaton,
Alina Friz,
Adeline Obitz, and
Kamryn Kramer all scored in the final 30 minutes for the Ducks.
