DALLAS, Pa. – Emily Leiby scored a season-high six goals and surpassed 200 career points in a 19-4 win for the No. 20 Stevens Institute of Technology women's lacrosse team over Misericordia Saturday afternoon in Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom action.
Leiby was far from the only star offensively Saturday for Stevens (7-4, 2-0 MACF):
Stefanie Sellitto and
Maddie Hogan each notched a hat trick, finishing with nine combined points;
Alina Friz and
Rebecca Guerra each had two goals;
Emily Smart handed out three assists. Defensively,
Lauren Sullivan,
Lindsay Esposito, and Sellitto combined for seven caused turnovers and six ground balls.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Misericordia scored first less than two minutes in and kept Stevens off the board until Guerra scored her first of the day on a free-position shot more than seven minutes later. Leiby put the Ducks up 2-1 with her first of the day at the 4:15 mark and Sellitto answered Misericordia's second of the day with her first, putting the Red and Gray back in front, 3-2, at the end of one.
Sellitto's second of the day made it 4-2 just past two minutes gone in the second and Leiby's second made it 5-2 just shy of the midway point of the quarter. Misericordia pulled back within two, but Leiby completed her hat trick less than a minute later, sending Stevens to the half up 6-3.
Stevens conceded the first goal of the third quarter but put its foot on the gas and did not left off the rest of the game. Hogan and Guerra made it an 8-4 game with goals just over a minute apart. Leiby bookended a 4-0 run that spanned just 1:34 with two more goals, the second getting her to 200 points; Hogan and Velardi each scored between Leiby's 199
th and 200
th.
After Sellitto made it 13-4, Leiby, Hogan, and
Alison Murray all scored in the final 2:27, making it a 10-goal quarter for the Ducks, and initiating the running clock.
Alison Lax scored the first goal of the fourth quarter and Friz added both of hers late as the Ducks closed out their ninth straight 10+ goal win in conference play.
