Myriad of Milestones Set As Women's Lacrosse Blows By Delaware Valley, 24-2

Smart Sets Program Assists Record; Hogan and Velardi Hit 100 Points

HOBOKEN, N.J. – Emily Smart set the program record for career assists, Maddie Hogan and Anna Velardi each hit 100 career points, and 12 different players scored at least one goal in a 24-2 win for the No. 16 Stevens Institute of Technology women's lacrosse team over Delaware Valley Wednesday afternoon in Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom play from DeBaun Athletic Complex.

Stevens (12-4, 6-0 MACF) led 10-0 after one quarter, 15-1 at the half, out-shooting the Aggies for the game 47-12, including a 38-10 shots on goal advantage, and came away with 24 of the game's 29 draw controls.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Hogan scored less than 30 seconds in off a feed from Velardi, then fed Alison Lax less than two minutes later, quickly putting the Ducks up 2-0. Smart and Velardi alternated assists on the next four goals, with Smart feeding Rebecca Guerra, Velardi feeding Hogan for the second time in the game, and each feeding Stefanie Sellitto once, making it 6-0 at the 7:08 mark, Hogan hitting 100 points during that stretch.

After nearly three scoreless minutes, Smart, then Lax, then Sellitto, then Leiby (the last two coming off feeds from Smart and Velardi) initiated the running clock just before the final minute of the period.

Guerra opened second quarter scoring with her second of the day, then Alison Murray and Elise Hensley made it 13-1 before Delaware Valley finally got on the board at the 5:01 mark. That score held under the 2:00 mark before Smart handed out career assist #144, breaking the school record previously held by Kyra Bednarski. Smart added assist #145 in the closing seconds of the half on an Abby O'Brien goal.

Sammy Renda had a hand in the first three goals of the second half, assisting on Hogan's third goal of the day, scoring an unassisted goal, then scoring off a feed from Hogan. Sellitto made it 19-1 with her fifth goal of the day before the Aggies added their second of the day for the final goal of the quarter.

Velardi hit the century mark at the start of the fourth quarter, assisting on the first of back-to-back goals from Leiby, with O'Brien assisting on the second. Addison Towey scored a pair, putting the Ducks up 20, and Kamryn Kramer added the final tally of the afternoon, with Velardi, O'Brien, and Sellitto, respectively, assisting on the final three goals.

  • The team set season highs in points, assists, shots, and shots on goal; additionally, the +19 margin on draw controls (24-5) was a season best.

  • Leiby's hat trick gave her 150 goals for her career, 88 of them coming in 34 games since the start of last season.
  • Sellitto finished with a game-high 13 draw controls, her third straight game and fifth overall this season with at least 10.
  • The 22-goal margin of victory tied a 25-3 win over FDU-Florham 11 days ago for the biggest win this season.
