DALLAS, Pa. – The Stevens Institute of Technology baseball team dropped the opening game of a Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom series to defending national champion Misericordia Friday afternoon by a final of 10-4.
The loss ends Stevens' (24-12, 17-2 MACF) eight-game winning streak and seven-game conference winning streak.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Ducks had two in scoring position with one out in the first following a
Victor Schilleci single,
Eli Somers walk, and
Dylan Fishbough sac bunt, but could not push either runner across. Misericordia then put two on the board in the first, then five in the third, taking control of the game early.
Stevens put a runner on in each of the first three innings, then loaded the bases with two out in the fifth but could not chip away at the deficit.
Misericordia tacked on another run in the fifth and two more in the sixth, that score holding until the ninth, when
Quinton Sterling led off with a home run then, after an
Aaron Wong walk and
Jason Wu single,
Cooper Poggioli hit a three-run shot. Three batters later,
Luke Mahala walked and
Robert Savely followed with a hit by a pitch, but the Ducks' attempt at a comeback for the history books ended there.
