LEXINGTON, Va. – The Stevens Institute of Technology men's lacrosse team's 10-game winning streak and 2025 season came to an end Saturday afternoon with a 15-9 loss to Gettysburg College in the Second Round of the 2025 NCAA Division III Championships on the campus of Washington & Lee.
Shea Grant had two goals and a team-high three points,
Matthew Pergola and Adam DeCristafaro each had two goals,
Tommy Robertozzi and
Joseph Grippo each had a goal and an assist, and
Finlay MacKnight had a goal for Stevens (15-4)
HOW IT HAPPENED
Both teams had to grind for scoring opportunities in the first quarter, with just nine of their 22 combined shot attempts going on goal, with Gettysburg (14-4) finally breaking through more than 11 minutes in with the only goal of the period.
The late goal in the first seemed to be the ignition both teams needed as the Bullets scored again in the opening seconds of the second, then Pergola, DeCristofaro, and Grant all scored in the following two minutes, giving the Ducks their first lead of the game at the 12:24 mark. Nearly four additional scoreless minutes for both sides followed before Gettysburg knotted the game, then took a 4-3 lead just shy of the midway point of the quarter, then tacked on another goal just before the half.
DeCristofaro and Grippo scored less than two minutes apart early in the third, pulling the Ducks back level. Robertozzi answered a Bullets goal, knotting the game at six at the 9:53 mark, but Gettysburg went for six unanswered goals to end the quarter, opening a 12-6 lead.
The two sides traded one goal for another in the fourth, with MacKnight, Pergola, and Grant each scoring for the Ducks, who pulled within five on three separate occasions, but no closer.
