HOBOKEN, N.J. – The Stevens Institute of Technology men's soccer team battled to a hard-fought 1-1 draw on Monday afternoon against William Paterson in a Garden State showdown at the DeBaun Athletic Complex.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Stevens (0-0-2) took an early lead when
Emerson Kekesi found the back of the net in the sixth minute for the Ducks' first goal of the 2025 season, sticking with the play and tapping it home after his initial attempt from inside the six-yard box was stopped.
The hosts carried that edge through the end of the first half and well into the second, limiting William Paterson (1-0-1) to just three shots in the first half and five through the hour mark, while constantly pressing the Pioneers' backline; Pioneers goalkeeper Luca Misko made three saves to keep the Ducks only a goal ahead through the 75
th minute.
Early in the 77
th, William Paterson knotted the match at one after Stevens' goalkeeper
Sebastian Montoulieu denied a penalty kick from Matty Escobar, but could not stop Escobar's second effort off the initial save.
In the 86
th minute,
Max Rokhsar created a penalty kick for Stevens when he was fouled inside the 18-yard box, but could not deliver the go-ahead goal when Misko denied the opportunity from the spot 12 yards out.
In all, the second half produced 20 fouls to 16 shots, as both sides showed strong physical play between the 18-yard boxes.
