HOBOKEN, N.J. – The Stevens Institute of Technology women's soccer team dominated action on both ends of the field Saturday afternoon in a 3-0 win over Sarah Lawrence at DeBaun Athletic Complex.
The Ducks controlled the run of play from the opening whistle, generating 17 total shots and limiting the Gryphons to just three attempts, only one of which landed on goal. With the win, Stevens improved to 2-2-1 on the season, while Sarah Lawrence dropped to 1-3-1.
HOW IT HAPPENED
After a series of early chances (seven shots in the first 31 minutes), Stevens finally broke through in the 39th minute.
Sarah Wnorowski took full advantage of a well-placed right-to-left cross through the 18-yard box, slotting home her first goal of the season, giving the Ducks the advantage heading into halftime. The Ducks' defense stifled the Gryphons over the opening 45, holding them to just two off-target attempts.
Mere moments into the second half, Stevens doubled its lead when
Alina Friz played a ball from midfield up ahead to a hard-charging
Alana Odom, who dribbled to just outside the six-yard box, firing one home into the lower right corner.
Stevens continued to press forward throughout, creating chances through possession and aggressive wing play. Sarah Lawrence goalkeeper Bella Vaca kept the Ducks from blowing things open with five second half saves, but
Lauren Alley tacked on one more in the 87
th minute with a strong strike from just inside the 18-yard box off a feed from
Mia Sena.
