Women's Soccer Draws With Montclair State, 1-1

Montclair, N.J. – The Stevens Institute of Technology women's soccer team battled Montclair State to a 1-1 draw Thursday night in a Garden State Showdown.

HOW IT HAPPENED
After a quiet first 20+ minutes, a Montclair State yellow card led to a Stevens (2-2-2) breakthrough in the 23rd minute. Taylor Truglia took the free kick off the yellow, delivering a ball to the left side of the 18-yard box that found its way to Alina Friz. Friz crossed just in front of goal, where Sophia Murphy knocked it in for the early lead.

That 1-0 lead held into the half, thanks in part to three saves from Kenny Donley, two coming in the final five minutes. The Ducks sought to add on early in the second half, registering three on-target attempts in the first 10 minutes, but Montclair State (3-0-3) keeper Salange Bell kept the Red Hawks just a goal back. Alana Odom had a look from inside the 18 in the 79th minute, but Bell again kept it a 1-0 affair.

Less than two minutes after Odom's effort, a foul in the 18-yard box gave Montclair State a penalty kick, which Mackenzie Albert converted just past a diving effort by Donley.

As she had in the first half, Donley made two saves in the final five minutes of the match, including a sprawling stop in the 86th minute, to preserve the draw.
