Galloway, N.J. – The Stevens Institute of Technology women's soccer team drew 1-1 with Stockton on Saturday afternoon in a contest fueled by strong defense.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Stockton (4-2-3) took the early lead, striking in the 7
th minute;
Sarah Wnorowski had the first good look of the game for Stevens (2-2-3) just 90 seconds later from the top of the 18-yard box, but Ospreys' keeper Morgan Keil made the sprawling save.
Neither side registered another on-target attempt for another 20+ minutes before the Ducks equalized in the 30
th. After Stevens forced a turnover deep in the attacking zone,
Madi Chester played a ball just wide of the six-yard box for a charging
Alana Odom. Odom crossed back toward the middle of the pitch to
Victoria Parelli, who tapped one inside the right post as Keil's momentum was carrying her the other way.
Sophia Murphy had a look for the lead in the 66
th minute, but Keil kept the match knotted at one. In the final two minutes,
Mia Sena nearly knocked in a wonder strike from more than 25 yards out, but Keil got just enough to deflect it off the crossbar, then corralled the loose ball as Odom came crashing in for a potential rebound.
Stevens locked in defensively after conceding the early score, not yielding a shot attempt for more than 45 minutes and not yielding another on-target attempt the rest of the match.
