NEWARK, N.J. – Ethan Hagen,
Matthew Murillo, and
Ben Goldberg all scored for the Stevens Institute of Technology men's soccer team in a 3-2 win over NYU Saturday evening.
HOW IT HAPPENED
In a first half that featured just four combined shots on goal, Hagen made the Ducks' lone such effort count, putting Stevens (3-2-3) up 1-0 in the 19
th minute. The Ducks were 60 seconds away from carrying that edge into the halftime break when NYU equalized in the 45
th minute, getting one by
Sebastian Montoulieu, who'd made a pair of saves earlier in the half.
In the 56
th minute, NYU's Keyon Namdar had a pair of chances to put the Violets in front, but his initial offering hit the right post and his follow-up was stopped by Montoulieu.
With the offensive intensity picking up, Murillo broke through for Stevens in the 73
rd minute. Just under 10 minutes later, a
Francesco Bonavita feed to Goldberg produced an insurance goal that proved all the more pivotal when NYU found the back of the net with less than 30 seconds to play.
