Brooklyn, N.Y. – The Stevens Institute of Technology women's basketball team extended its winning streak to four games with a 70-59 triumph over St. Joseph's-Brooklyn on Friday afternoon.
Audrey Kehoe registered a double-double with 10 points and 17 rebounds for Stevens (9-2), while Kristen Donovan led all scorers with 18 points for the Bears (6-6).
HOW IT HAPPENED
Stevens was held scoreless for the first 2:18 of the game before
Isabella Duval knocked down a three-pointer to tie the contest at three. That triple sparked a 15-3 run, as
Leyla Castro drained a pair of three-pointers during the rally. The home side closed to within five at 15-10, but the Ducks ended the opening period on a 7-2 run, capped by a layup from
Maya Abramson.
Duval extended the lead to 13 with a three-pointer to open the second quarter, as Stevens held the Bears to just one made field goal over the first 5:48 of the stanza. The advantage swelled to 18 with 1:53 remaining in the half at 40-22, before St. Joseph's-Brooklyn scored the final eight points of the period to trim the deficit to 40-30 at the break.
The Stevens defense limited St. Joseph's to just 11 made field goals in the opening 20 minutes, including a 1-of-8 effort from beyond the arc.
The Ducks opened the third quarter with the first six points, with Kehoe accounting for four of the six. St. Joseph's-Brooklyn briefly halted the momentum with a three-pointer before Abramson tallied four consecutive points to restore a 14-point advantage.
Duval connected from deep on consecutive possessions early in the fourth quarter, pushing the Stevens lead to 21. The Bears responded with a 17-3 run, cutting the margin to seven while holding Stevens to just three points following Duval's back-to-back triples. That would be as close as St. Joseph's-Brooklyn would get, as four free throws from Castro, two from Kehoe, and one from
Dorothy Loffredo sealed the victory.
