O'Boyle's Career-Day Leads Women's Basketball Past FDU-Florham

Madison, N.J. – Sophomore Fiona O'Boyle recorded her first career double-double, posting career highs of 23 points and 13 rebounds as the Stevens Institute of Technology women's basketball team defeated FDU-Florham, 72-55, on Saturday afternoon.

Olivia Schubiger added 14 points for Stevens (14-3, 5-1 MAC Freedom), while Shannon Tighe led FDU-Florham (7-10, 0-6 MAC Freedom).

HOW IT HAPPENED
Stevens never trailed in the contest and scored 10 points on its first four possessions. Isabella Duval knocked down consecutive three-pointers to open the game, followed by layups from Audrey Kehoe and Leyla Castro. Duval later drained her third triple of the opening quarter at the 5:52 mark, igniting a 9-2 Ducks run. O'Boyle contributed four points during the spurt, including a pair of free throws.

FDU-Florham trimmed the deficit to eight early in the second quarter, but Duval answered with her fourth three-pointer of the half to push the margin back into double figures. Stevens' stifling defense limited the Devils to just one field goal over the final 7:26 of the half, as the Ducks carried a 40-27 lead into the break. Despite the 13-point advantage, Stevens was held to one made basket over the final 3:41 of the half.

O'Boyle jump-started the second half, scoring the first eight points during a 10-2 Stevens run to open the third quarter. The lead swelled to 22 after Maya Abramson converted a layup with 3:33 remaining in the period. Abramson later capped the third-quarter scoring with a three-pointer before FDU-Florham cut the deficit to 15 early in the fourth.

Schubiger halted the rally with a jumper, and Stevens pushed the lead back to 19 on back-to-back baskets by Camryn Kinne. FDU-Florham converted the final layup of the game, but the Ducks comfortably closed out the victory.
