Wrestling Completes Action-Packed Day Throughout Northeast

Ducks Drop Dual at NYU, 22-21 and finish 4th at Ken Ober Invitational

New York, N.Y. / Elizabethtown, Pa. – The Stevens Institute of Technology competed in both a dual at #18 NYU and at the Ken Ober Invitational in Elizabethtown, Pa. on Saturday, narrowly dropping the dual, 22-21, and finishing in fourth place in Pennsylvania.

The Rundown – NYU
  • Down 9-0 after the first two matches of the day, Stevens nationally-ranked trio of Nico Diaz (No. 3, 141), Cole Handlovic (No. 2, 149), and Ryan Smith (No. 7, 157) all collected bonus point victories (Diaz and Handlovic by major decision, Smith by technical fall), giving the Ducks a 13-9 lead in the dual
  • Tyler Roe made it four straight bonus point wins with another technical fall at 165, but NYU won at 174, 184, and 197, grabbing the lead back, 22-18
  • Noah Berlin-Langston closed things out with an 11-9 decision win at heavyweight, but could not pick up at least a major decision the Ducks needed to even the dual, as the Violets came away with the one-point victory

The Rundown – Ken Ober
  • Michael O'Connor was the Ducks high finisher of the day, taking second place at 157, starting the day with four straight wins (three by technical fall) before falling to the #1 seed in the bracket, Andre Allen of McDaniel. The #20 seed in the bracket, Andrew O'Reilly finished fifth, picking up three wins over top five seeds in the draw along the way.
  • In a 149-pound bracket with three Ducks among the Top 6 seeds, George Pavis matched his #4 seed with a fourth-place finish. Pavis picked up a technical fall over teammate (and #5 seed) Logan Levine and a decision win over #6 seed Justin Ciliotta took 5th in the class, picking up a major decision win after falling to Pavis in a consolation draw semifinal.
  • James McGinty took fifth at 125 pounds, like Pavis, matching his #5 seeding. McGinty bookended his day with victories by fall, adding an 11-2 major decision win along the way.
  • Adam Ramadan and Sidney Dillon went toe-to-toe twice at 141 pounds. Dillon collected a 14-7 win in their first meeting, but Ramadan got the last laugh with a 12-8 decision win in the fifth-place match. The two collected five (other) victories on the day between them.
  • Kristian Koroveshi dropped his first match of the day at 184 pounds, but picked up three pins in his next four matches, including in the bracket's fifth-place match.
  • Ben Rosa made it six Ducks with fifth-place finishes at 285 pounds, Rosa started his day with a pin, added a technical fall victory two matches later, and picked up two additional wins by decision, including a high-scoring 19-13 affair in the fifth-place match.
  • Additionally, Brendan Schuler had two wins at 125 pounds, Bodhi Mccormack had two wins at 165, and Chris Piazza had three wins at 174.

The Ducks head to Ithaca for a tri-meet with the host Bombers and Nassau Community College next Saturday, January 31, starting at Noon.
