Men's Basketball Wrap Non-Conference Play With 67-63 Win Over Kean

HOBOKEN, N.J. – Tommy Scholl posted his second 20-point, 10-rebound game of the year and Harmehar Chhabra flirted with a triple-double in a 67-63 win for the Stevens Institute of Technology men's basketball team Saturday afternoon over Kean in the final game of their Holiday Classic.

The Ducks finished the weekend 2-0, following a 96-89 win on Friday over Saint Joseph's College of Maine.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Kyle Maddison, Chhabra, and Scholl combined for the Ducks' first 21 points, as the Red and Gray took a nine-point lead less than nine minutes in; Maddison had 10 of the 21, including a pair of three-pointers.

Stevens (6-5) went nearly four minutes without a point late in the first half, but remained in front thanks in part to a strong defensive effort that held Kean to just two points during that same stretch. Evan Gutowski had two free throws and a layup in the final 90 seconds, putting the Ducks up 30-26 at the half. After shooting 56 percent in each half on Friday, the Ducks shot 42 percent in the first half Saturday, but held Kean to a 34.5 percent clip.

After hitting three shots from beyond the arc in the first half, Stevens surpassed that in the first nine minutes of the second half, taking a double-digit lead. Maddison had four of the Ducks' first six out of the break then, after a Matt Leming three, Scholl had the Ducks next 16 points, including a trio of three-pointers, plus three FTs after being fouled beyond the arc, as the Ducks held a 56-48 lead with 2:59 left.

Chhabra, who had seven points in the first 37 minutes of game time, had eight of the Ducks' final 11 down the stretch, keeping the Cougars from drawing no closer than four.
