Kekesi Nets Hat Trick as Men's Soccer Downs Delaware Valley on Senior Night

Hoboken, N.J. – Emerson Kekesi recorded a hat trick as the Stevens Institute of Technology men's soccer team rolled past Delaware Valley University 4-0 in MAC Freedom action Saturday evening at the DeBaun Athletic Complex.

Lucas Mendes added a goal for the Ducks (6-3-3, 1-1-2 MAC Freedom), while RJ Dougherty handed out a pair of assists. Stevens held a 20-10 advantage in shots and put 10 attempts on goal while limiting Delaware Valley to three shots on target.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Stevens wasted little time jumping in front, opening the scoring just 2:30 into the contest. Dougherty won the ball off a failed clear and fed Kekesi, who buried the chance to give the Ducks a 1-0 advantage.

The Ducks doubled the margin in the 16th minute. Dougherty once again provided the setup, this time finding Mendes for the goal. The first-year picked up a pass in the midfield and found Mendes, who rifled a shot off the goalkeeper's hands and into the net to make it 2-0. The sophomore nearly added another less than a minute later, but his attempt was turned aside.

Stevens continued to control the opening half, generating nine shots and three corner kicks while holding Delaware Valley to three attempts. Bobby Boyke made his lone save of the period in the 42nd minute to send the Ducks into halftime with a two-goal advantage.
Kekesi struck again less than five minutes into the second half. After his penalty kick was saved, Kekesi followed up the attempt and buried the rebound at the 49:34 mark to extend the Stevens lead to 3-0.

The Ducks needed just over six more minutes to add their fourth. Luca Chirichiello intercepted a pass on the left flank, beat a defender and slipped a pass to Kekesi, who completed the hat trick in the 56th minute to give Stevens a 4-0 advantage.
