Women's Soccer Reels Off Wild Second Half Rally For 3-2 MAC Freedom Win Over Marywood

Scranton, Pa. -- Trailing 2-0 in the 50th minute, the Stevens Institute of Technology women's soccer team rallied for a 3-2 MAC Freedom win over the conference's newest member, Marywood, on Tuesday night.

The victory, the third in a row for Stevens, moved the Ducks to 2-0 in conference play and 3-5-3 overall.

How It Happened
For much of the opening half, Stevens generated chances but found itself trailing despite controlling long stretches of possession. Marywood capitalized on a corner kick in the 28th minute, then doubled its lead in the final seconds before the halftime whistle, despite the Ducks holding a 4-3 shot advantage at that point in the match.

Stevens' offensive persistence paid off in the 52nd minute when Hannah Casale finished a cross from Sophia Carr, ripping one into the top left corner from right near the penalty marker, sparking the comeback.
The equalizer arrived in the 78th minute when Taylor Truglia delivered a fantastic free kick from more than 30 yards out to hard-charging Kaitlyn Pettit at the six-yard box, who got enough of her foot on the ball to slide one past Marywood keeper Genevieve Morrison.

From there, Stevens wasted almost no time taking the lead. Just over two minutes later, Malia Chopra found Sophia Murphy, who settled the ball and tucked a strike from 25 yards out just under the crossbar, putting the Ducks on top for the first time, capping the three goals in 30 minutes spurt.

Down the stretch, Marywood collected more yellow cards (one) than shots on goal, as the Ducks finished with a 20-5 advantage, outshooting the Pacers by a whopping 16-2 margin in the second half.

Inside The Box Score
  • After the Ducks' first seven goals through their first 10 matches were scored by seven different players, both Casale and Murphy notched their second of the season Tuesday night; Casale also played the full 90 for the first time all season
  • Tuesday marked the first comeback win of any sort for the program since the second match of the 2025 season (302 over Springfield) and the first multi-goal comeback since at least the 2010 season
  • Lucy Smith earned her third straight victory in goal after playing the second half, not allowing a goal and making a save
