Center Valley, Pa. – The Stevens Institute of Technology men's basketball team's nine-game winning streak ended Saturday afternoon with an 83-67 loss to DeSales in MAC Freedom action.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Stevens (15-8, 9-3 MACF) scored the game's first five points, but DeSales reeled off a 21-6 run, opening a 21-11 lead at the 6:21 mark. The Ducks pulled back to within five, 28-23, at the 2:54 mark, as DeSales eventually carried a 35-27 lead into the locker room.
Tommy Scholl opened the second half with a layup and
Matt Leming followed with five straight points, pulling the Ducks to within a single point, 35-34, less than 90 seconds in. Still down one, 37-36, Stevens conceded seven straight to DeSales before pulling to within a single possession again, 45-42, with
Kyle Maddison scoring six straight Stevens' points.
The game remained a one-possession affair, 48-45, with 12:12 to play, but DeSales quickly opened a double-digit lead as the Ducks went cold from the floor. The Ducks got as close as 13 with just under four minutes to go as both teams cleared their benches down the stretch.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Evan Gutowski led the Ducks with a season-high 17 points on a 6-for-8 clip from the floor
- Maddison finished with 16 points and five rebounds
- Leming just missed a double-double, finishing with 15 points and nine rebounds, adding three steals
- The Ducks attempted 28 free throws just in the second half, more than they'd taken in 18 games this season entering Saturday
