Men's Tennis Rallies to Knock Off Ithaca, 5-2

Edgewater, N.J. – The Stevens Institute of Technology men's tennis team won five of six singles matches to upend Ithaca College, 5-2, on Saturday night.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Ducks fell behind early, 1-0, after dropping two of the three doubles flights. Renat Kramin and Max-William Kanz earned a 6-2 victory at the top of the lineup, but Samvid Andhare and Dhaivik Chenemilla, along with Ian Batra and Tristan Wroe, fell by identical 6-4 margins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles.
 
Stevens stormed back in singles play, beginning with a dominant 6-0, 6-3 victory from Kanz at No. 1. Kramin followed with a win at No. 2, picking up a 6-0, 7-6 (7-2) decision, while Wroe added a straight-set victory at No. 4 by scores of 6-2, 7-5.
 
Both Chenemilla (No. 3) and Elias Alkio (No. 5) dropped their opening sets before mounting comebacks. Alkio, who was topped 6-0 in the first frame, rebounded with a 7-6 (7-1) win in the second set. The newcomer then outlasted Carlos Hernandez in the third, pulling out a 7-6 (8-6) victory to clinch the match for Stevens. After falling 7-6 (7-4) in the opening set, Chenemilla responded with a 6-4 win in the second before enduring a long third set and prevailing 7-6 (7-5) to close out the night.
 
UP NEXT
The Ducks head south next weekend, traveling to Mary Washington for a pair of matches. Stevens will face Virginia Wesleyan on Saturday before taking on the host Eagles on Sunday.
