Men's Basketball Remain Atop MAC Freedom With 88-81 Win Over Misericordia

HOBOKEN, N.J. – The Stevens Institute of Technology men's basketball team made 13-of-16 free throws over the final six minutes, holding off Misericordia, 88-81, in a MAC Freedom clash on Saturday afternoon from Canavan Arena for their eighth straight victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Stevens (14-7, 8-2) conceded the game's opening bucket but reeled off the next 12 and, eventually, 30 of the next 38, opening a 30-10 lead less than 11 minutes in; Tommy Scholl matched the Cougars' team total with 10, while Harmehar Chhabra added seven and Matt Leming had six – Stevens started 11-for-17 and 6-for-10 from three-point territory. Stevens' lead remained north of 10 as the Ducks finished the half hitting 56.3 percent of their shots, including 47 percent from three (9-for-19).

What was a 51-37 halftime lead grew to 59-42 less than two minutes and was still 64-52 at the 12:19 mark before Misericordia chipped away at the deficit, closing to eight minutes with 9:55 left and four just over a minute later. Both sides traded back and forth over the following three minutes before Misericordia closed to a single point, 75-74, with 4:40 remaining.

Despite not making a field goal over the final six minutes, Chhabra made six of eight from the line, Brendan Coughlan followed with 3-of-4, and Scholl & Maddison went 4-for-4 in the final 30 seconds to close out the win.
