Hoboken, N.J. – The Stevens Institute of Technology women's fencing team won both of its matches at the Stevens Invitational on Sunday afternoon.
The Ducks topped Hunter 24-3 before taking down NJIT 21-6.
HOW IT HAPPENED
All three weapon groups posted identical 8-1 marks in the victory over Hunter.
Grace Hicks and
Madyson Gavilanes both went 3-0 at epee, while
Elyse Sato finished 2-1. In foil,
Emily Zgombic and
Akemi Rodriguez each went 3-0, with
Julia DiPaolo posting a 2-1 mark. Zgombic conceded just six touches across her bouts, while Rodriguez allowed only one. At sabre,
Anastasia Mose and
Ashlyn Leung both went 3-0, as
Sasha Craine accounted for the final two victories.
The Ducks blanked NJIT at foil, claiming all nine wins. Zgombic, Rodriguez, and DiPaolo each went 3-0, with Stevens allowing just seven touches in the weapon group. Stevens added eight victories at epee, led by three wins apiece from Hicks and Gavilanes, while
Katherine Mooney recorded the final two triumphs in the 8-1 result. The Highlanders edged Stevens 5-4 at sabre, with Mose earning a 2-1 record.
Esther Li and Leung rounded out the Ducks' victories in the weapon group.
