Hoboken, N.J. – The No. 6 Stevens Institute of Technology men's volleyball team rallied from a first-set defeat to knock off Eastern University 3-1 in Middle Atlantic Conference action on Wednesday night.
Phillip Bone had a double-double of 12 kills and 10 digs for Stevens (15-4, 3-0 MAC) as Kaodi Wokocha had 10 kills for Eastern (9-12, 1-2 MAC). Stevens won the match 20-25, 25-12, 25-21, and 25-19.
HOW IT HAPPENED
With Stevens leading 6-5, the Eagles tallied five of the next six markers to go in front 10-7. The Ducks leveled the frame at 13 on a kill from
Jacob Lobdell and tied it again at 17 on an ace from
Nick Schmidt. Eastern snapped the 17-all tie, closing set one with eight of the last 11 points to go up 1-0 in the match.
The Ducks broke set two open with seven straight points to lead 8-1 early.

Ryan Schmid, and
Esteban Schmitt tallied kills as Bone added two during the spurt. The lead swelled to double digits after two straight attack errors and extended to 19-9 after kills from Schmitt and Bone.
Bennett Heydorn served up two aces as Stevens got to set point, and an Eastern service error tied the match at one.
Stevens reeled off five straight to go up 6-3 in the third, as
Cade Allen and Bone registered kills. The Eagles didn't back down and jumped back in front 16-13. Schmid put away a Schmidt set to push Stevens back up by one, and ties were seen at 17, 18, and 19. The Ducks captured the third stanza after back-to-back kills from Schmid and Bone put Stevens up 2-1.
An Eagles attack error put Stevens up 5-2 in the fourth before a 3-1 run on kills from
Greg Li, Schmitt, and Schmidt extended the lead to 12-8. Eastern closed to within three multiple times, but a service error and a kill on a free ball by Schmitt made it 20-15. Bone put down a kill to bring up match point before Schmid polished off the comeback with a kill of his own.

- Schmid hit .480 (14-2-25) despite playing just three sets.
- Schmidt dished out 45 assists and recorded seven digs.
- Schmitt, Allen, and Li all added three blocks in the win.
