Hoboken, N.J. – The Stevens Institute of Technology men's lacrosse team, No. 7 in the latest national rankings, collected their third straight victory by at least nine goals on Wednesday, moving to 4-0 on the season with an 18-9 win over Haverford.
Matthew Pergola,
Adam DeCristofaro, and
Will Labartino combined for 10 goals,
Jackson Penn had a two-goal, four-point night,
Bastian Chorazykiewicz had another strong performance at the X, and
Luke Lesizza &
John Flynn caused havoc for the Fords defensively all game.
How It Happened
The teams traded the first four goals of the game, with Penn and
Connor Moore just over a minute apart for the Ducks. Labartino put Stevens up 3-2 after the first quarter and Penn made it 4-2 less than a minute into the second quarter, but Haverford knotted things at 4-all just shy of the midway point of the quarter, then 5-all just over two minutes later, then took a 6-5 lead with just over four minutes left in the first half. Pergola, who scored the Ducks' fifth goal, added their sixth and seventh, putting the red and gray back in front, with
Ryan Jack tacking on another for an 8-6 lead heading to the locker room.
After scoring the final three goals of the half, Stevens retained its momentum into and through the third quarter, outscoring the Fords 5-0 while out-shooting them 25-3 while winning all six face-offs in the frame. Labartino (twice), DeCristofaro,
Joe Leone, and
Jack Tenaglia all found the back of the net in the period.
The unanswered run reached 11 straight in the fourth following two more from DeCristofaro and one from
Blake Creamer before the Fords found the net for the first time in more than 27 minutes of game action. Pergola and Tenaglia tacked on the Ducks' final two goals of the game in the final 3:30.
