Clearwater, Fla. – The No.17 Stevens Institute of Technology women's lacrosse team finished their Spring Break trip to Florida 2-0 following a 17-8 victory over Geneseo on Wednesday.
The Ducks held the Knights – who've made four straight conference finals between the SUNYAC and Empire 8 – to season lows in shots and shots on goal while finishing a season-best +17 (22-5) in draw controls, surpassing the previous season high set yesterday in a 12-5 win over Stevenson.
How It Happened
The first nine minutes of the game featured just one goal from Geneseo, but the Ducks showed the full depth of their offense over the final six minutes, with five different players –
Stefanie Sellitto,
Alina Friz,
Abby O'Brien,
Maddie Hogan, and
Gracie Shea -- each scoring once.
Friz answered a last-second first quarter goal from the Knights with the first two of the second quarter, putting Stevens (4-3) up 7-2, but Geneseo scored the next four spanning early into the third quarter, pulling back to within 7-6.
Alison Murray and Friz stopped the run with back-to-back goals less than 15 seconds apart, then Friz and Sellitto answered one from the Knights, putting the Ducks in front 11-7 heading to the fourth.
Sellitto opened the fourth with two goals in the first two minutes (both off assists from Friz), then Hogan and O'Brien each added another for a 15-7 lead with just under eight minutes to play. After Geneseo scored their final goal of the game with just under six minutes left, Murray added two more in the final 70 seconds for the final margin.
