Galloway, N.J. – The Stevens Institute of Technology men's track & field team opened the outdoor season at the Stockton Invitational on Saturday, collecting two victories, six individual Top 5's, and a Top-5 relay finish.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Brandon Kiefer took the top spot in the pole vault as the only competitor to clear 4.15 meters; the senior was also one of just two competitors to even clear 4.00 meters.
Mick Barbi, who rans 8:55.74 in the prelims (5
th-fastest time in program history) crossed the line first in the 3,000 meter final in 9:04.40, more than three seconds of the runner-up. Barbi led from the opening 200 meters and did not relinquish the lead over the following seven laps.
Enrico Parrella and
Joseph Ruben took third and fifth in the event, respectively, while
Ryan Shibles,
Kevin Medrow, and
Max Thorn finished 6, 7, 9.
Joseph Perriello finished fourth in two events, setting all-time program Top 10 marks in both. The sophomore clocked 15.66 in the 100-meter hurdles, good for ninth all-time and soared 6.63 meters in the long jump, good for seventh all-time.
The 4x400 meter relay team of
Eduardo Neto,
Christopher Reyes,
Wesley Schlimer, and
Markus Soennichsen ran 3:34.85, finishing fourth.
Though not a top-5 finisher in the event, first-year
Asher Morgan tied the 10
th-fastest 100 meter time in program history, running 11.15 in the prelims.
