No. 14 Women's Lacrosse Takes Down Mary Washington, 12-9

Hoboken, N.J. – The No. 14 Stevens Institute of Technology women's lacrosse team knocked off the University of Mary Washington 12-9 in a non-conference tilt on Wednesday evening.

Maddie Hogan matched a career-high with five goals for Stevens (2-1) as Abigail Fisher led Mary Washington (1-4) with five.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Both goalkeepers were up to the task early on, as Emma Guzowski made her first save just 1:24 into the game before Hogan was stopped at the four minute mark. The Eagles netted the game's first goal 5:09 in, but the Ducks answered 90 seconds later. After Lindsay Esposito corralled the ensuing draw, Stevens got an unassisted goal from Hogan to tie it at one.

The Ducks took advantage of an Eagles turnover midway through the frame, and Hogan once again potted an unassisted tally, putting Stevens up 2-1. The run continued, with Alina Friz linking up with Stefanie Sellitto, stretching the lead to 3-1. Guzowski turned away a Mary Washington shot with 3:03 left, but Mary Washington's goalkeeper rejected shots from Sellitto and a pair from Elise Hensley to keep it 3-1 after the first quarter ended.

The visitors tied the game at three, netting two goals within the first 3:45 of the period. Guzowski kept it level at three with two saves. Abby O'Brien snapped the three-all deadlock at the 9:52 mark, but once again UMW equaled five minutes later. As time ticked down in the half, Friz gave Stevens the halftime lead, scoring with 28 seconds left. Mary Washington had one final first half attempt, but was thwarted by Guzowski.

The Eagles recorded the first marker of the third quarter before Hogan and Alison Murray went back-to-back within 67 seconds of each other. After the Eagles got back to a one goal deficit, Hogan kick-started a 3-0 spurt to close out the third with a free-position tally. The Ducks took advantage of an Eagles yellow card, as Sellitto and O'Brien registered man-up goals during the run to lead 10-6 after three.

The rally continued into the fourth, with Murray and Hogan registering markers early. The Eagles whittled the lead in half late in the game, connecting on three goals within a 1:37 span to make it 12-9. Stevens came away and did not allow a shot on goal over the final 2:52 to seal the victory.
