No. 14 Women's Lacrosse Nipped by No. 23 Rowan, 13-11

HOBOKEN, N.J. – The Stevens Institute of Technology women's lacrosse team dropped a Top-25 matchup on Saturday at DeBaun Athletic Complex, as No. 23 Rowan came away with a 13-11 win over the No. 14 Ducks in a Garden State battle that went back and forth to the end.

Each side both held two-goal leads and faced two-goal deficits in each half in a game that featured six ties, including three in the fourth quarter alone.

How It Happened
Abby O'Brien scored the Ducks' first of the game, though Stevens (2-2) fell behind 3-1 after the first quarter. That deficit held through the first nine minutes of the second quarter before the Ducks' offense came to incredible life over the final 5+ minutes. Alina Friz and Maddie Hogan each scored less than a minute apart to knot things at three, then Elise Hensley and Alina Friz each scored over the final 90 seconds, sending Stevens to the locker room with a 5-3 lead. Stevens collected seven of the half's nine draw controls, though Rowan held a 19-13 shot advantage.

The Profs tied things at five just past three minutes gone in the third, but Stefanie Sellitto put the Ducks back in front, 6-5. Alison Murray and Friz answered Rowan's second game-tying effort of the quarter, putting Stevens up 8-6, but Rowan reeled off three in a row, taking a 9-8 lead into the fourth.

The fourth quarter began with the teams trading back-to-back goals, with Friz and Hogan putting the Ducks back in front before the Profs reclaimed an 11-10 lead. Murray tied the game with her second of the day, but Rowan took the lead with just over three minutes left and added an insurance goal just over a minute later, as the Ducks missed their final seven shots down the stretch.
