Oneonta, N.Y. – The Stevens Institute of Technology men's lacrosse team, No. 7 in the latest national rankings, moved to 3-0 with their second straight 10-goal victory on Saturday, downing the Oneonta Red Dragons, 15-5.
Tyler Holland and
Adam DeCristofaro combined for nine goals, while DeCristofaro was also one of four Ducks with multiple assists (
Matthew Pergola,
Jack Tenaglia,
Ryan Jack).
First-year goalkeeper
Michael Jannotte continued to play like an upperclassman, making 13 saves while raising his season save percentage to 0.667 and lowering his goals-against average to 7.59.
How It Happened
Two weeks removed from an 18-8 win over Springfield, the Ducks showed no signs of rust, taking the lead 37 seconds in and never looking back.
Will Labartino struck first off a feed from DeCristofaro, Pergola added one less than four minutes later, and Holland sandwiched a pair around Labartino's second as Stevens led 5-0 after a first quarter in which they outshot the Red Dragons 19-4.
Oneonta finally cracked the scoreboard to open the second quarter scoring, but a goal apiece from Holland, DeCristofaro, and
Joe Leone over the following 3:13 pushed the Stevens lead out to 8-1.
The lead narrowly shrunk to 9-3 at the half, then 9-5 just past the midway point of the third when Stevens re-found its footing and retook control over the final 18+ minutes. Holland notched his fourth of the day to close the third quarter, then opened the fourth with two more, putting Stevens back up seven, 12-5.
Connor Moore,
Chris Ciccarello, and
Adam DeCristofaro put the finishing touches on the win with a goal apiece over the final seven minutes as Jannotte notched seven of his 13 saves in the final frame alone.
