Edgewater, N.J. – The Stevens Institute of Technology women's tennis team dropped a 7-0 decision to Franklin & Marshall College on Saturday night.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Stevens trailed after doubles, falling in all three flights. The No. 2 flight of
Gigi Arenas and
Kaylee Hobbick battled but were knocked off 6-4. At the top of the doubles lineup,
Stephanie Untermeyer and
Alix Dry were defeated 6-3, while
Wei-Wei Lai and
Lorena Piegas fell 6-1 at the No. 3 flight.
Both Dry and Untermeyer went three sets but were unable to notch a win. Dry dropped the first set at No. 1, 6-1, but responded with a 6-3 triumph in the second. She was bested in the tiebreak, while Untermeyer had the reverse result. She won the first frame 6-3 and was knocked off 6-1 in the second before dropping the third set.
Arenas fought at the No. 5 flight but was upended 6-5, 6-4, as Lai fell 6-3, 6-4 at No. 4. Piegas nearly forced a third set after falling 6-0 in the first but was clipped 7-6 in the second. Hobbick was knocked off 6-4, 6-2 at the No. 6 flight.
