Wilkes-Barre, Pa. – The No. 3 Stevens Institute of Technology men's volleyball team completed an unbeaten regular season in the Middle Atlantic Conference with a 3-0 victory over King's College on Wednesday night.
The Ducks (22-4, 8-0 MAC) won 25-14, 25-21, and 25-11.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Stevens never trailed in the opening frame, with a solo block from
Colin Holden and a kill from
Sean Marvuglio extending the lead to 5-2. A kill and back-to-back aces from
Jacob Lobdell stretched the margin to five at 11-6, and Stevens extended the lead to double figures on the heels of a 5-0 spurt. During the run,
Colin Hughes and Marvuglio had two kills, with Lobdell adding one. The first-year Lobdell polished off set one as he put down a kill off a Marvuglio assist.
King's held a two-point margin for nearly half of the second stanza before the Ducks took their first advantage after a 5-1 run. Marvuglio served up an ace to tie it at 13, as
Bennett Heydorn put down a kill to push Stevens up 16-14. The home side evened the frame at 16, but kills from Heydorn and Holden gave the Ducks the lead they would not relinquish. The Monarchs got within three late, but an attack error gave Stevens the 25-21 victory.
Much like the second stanza, King's led early in the third frame, going up 6-4. Marvuglio turned the tide with seven straight points, including consecutive aces, to break the set open. King's got within six at 16-10, but the Ducks surrendered just one point the rest of the way, finishing on a 9-1 run. Holden, Findley, and Heydorn provided strong serving, with Holden registering two kills.
