Weehawken, N.J. –
Emma Quattrochi and
Kacey DiPasquale of the Stevens Institute of Technology softball team set records as the Ducks defeated Arcadia University in both ends of a Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom twin bill on Saturday.
Quattrochi set a new single-season record for stolen bases (26), while DiPasquale broke the single-game record for RBI (7). Additionally, Head Coach
Emily Kaczmarek won her 160th career game in the nightcap, passing former head coach Erica Mehalick for the wins in program history. The Ducks (18-12) won the first game 16-2 and the second one 9-0, with both ending in five innings.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Knights scored twice in the top of the first of game one, using a two-run single with one out.
Jessica Hsu escaped further damage, notching a strikeout and inducing a fielder's choice to retire the final two hitters.
The Ducks answered back with six in the home half of the inning. Quattrochi got the inning going with a single and stole second and third before
Allison Mitloff drove her in with an RBI groundout.
Carmelita Murphy-Brown, Hsu, and
Isabela Lipsky walked to fill the bases.
Madison DiSarno drew another free pass to tie the game at two, and DiPasquale bashed a grand slam to left-center, extending the lead to 6-2. Hsu retired the next nine Knights and helped her own cause with an RBI single through the left side in the bottom of the second.
Stevens broke the game open in the third, scoring nine times.
Isabelle Won doubled to left with one out, and after a
Riley Lawrence walk, Quattrochi drove in a run on a single up the middle. Mitloff tripled to score two, and Murphy-Brown dropped a single to left-center to stretch the margin to 11-2. Three straight walks brought in an additional tally before DiPasquale smacked a bases-clearing double to right-center, scoring three runs. Lawrence capped the barrage with a triple to left-center that scored DiPasquale.
The Ducks wasted little time in game two, scoring four times in the bottom of the first. Mitloff walked with one out, and Murphy-Brown notched an infield single. After back-to-back RBI singles by Hsu and Lipsky, Stevens capped the inning with a run scoring on a wild pitch and a sacrifice fly.
Fischer retired 10 of the first 12 batters she faced, with no runner advancing past first base. Quattrochi set the steals record in the bottom of the fourth, stealing second and third after reaching on a bunt single. Three straight RBI singles up the middle by Mitloff, Murphy-Brown, and Hsu stretched the lead to 7-0, and Stevens loaded the bases on a Lipsky double and a walk to Angelique Ceballos-Cardona.
Ella Tozduman pinch-hit and hit a fly ball to the right fielder, who made the catch but fell, allowing two runs to score.
The Knights put the leadoff batter on with a single in the fifth, but she was quickly erased on a 6-3 double play. Fischer completed the sweep with a groundout to second, sealing the shutout.
