Annville, Pa. –- Ryan Smith and Brandon Kiefer of the Stevens Institute of Technology wrestling & men's (indoor) track and field teams, respectively, were named Senior Scholar-Athletes by the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC), as revealed by the league office on Friday.

The MAC Senior Scholar-Athletes, first recognized in the 2000-01 academic year, are traditionally announced after the completion of each sport season and given to one senior student-athlete from each sport who exhibits top academic excellence and athletic prowess. The MAC Senior Scholar-Athlete Award is based 50 percent on academics and 50 percent on athletic achievements.

Smith is the latest in a line of Stevens wresters to earn the honor, becoming the sixth member of the program to earn the honor since the school joined the conference in 2019-20. Smith adds this off-the-mat honor to a four-year career that culminated in March with a fourth straight All-American honor after another Top 8 finish at the NCAA Championships – Smith's fourth-place finish was his best as a Duck.
 
Kiefer becomes the first male track and field athlete (indoor or outdoor) for the Ducks to earn the Senior Scholar Award since Stevens joined the MAC. Kiefer solidified himself as one of the finest on the track (and the field) in school history after claiming his third conference heptathlon title at MAC Indoor Championships in February, finishing nearly 200 points ahead of the event runner-up.
 
Both Smith and Kiefer have been named to the MAC Winter Academic Honor Roll each of the past three seasons – Kiefer is also a three-time Spring Academic Honor Roll selection while Smith has been named Winter Academic All-MAC three times.
 
Smith currently carries a 3.77 GPA in Business and Technology; Kiefer currently carries a 3.72 GPA in Mechanical Engineering
