Bayonne, N.J.– The Stevens Institute of Technology men's tennis team topped Misericordia 4-0 Wednesday afternoon in the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom Semifinals.
The Ducks won their 12th straight conference tournament match dating back to the 2020-21 season and 47
th straight conference match (regular season and conference tournament) over that same time frame.
HOW IT HAPPENED
As the women's team did to DeSales yesterday, the top-seeded Ducks (13-5) were in control of the match with the fourth-seeded Cougars from start to finish.
The No. 1 doubles team of
Max-William Kanz &
Samvid Andhare and No. 3 team of
Elias Alkio &
Dhaivik Chenemilla each won 6-0, clinching the first point of the match – the unfinished No. 2 match featuring
Tristan Wroe &*
Ian Batra was halted with the duo up 4-1.
In singles, Kanz made it 2-0 with a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 2 and
Ian Batra picked up the third team point with a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 3. With the Ducks up one set in each of the four remaining matches, it was Alkio who clinched first, winning 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6.
Waiting behind Alkio was No. 1 Andhare – ahead 6-0, 4-0 --, No. 4 Chenemilla – ahead 6-0, 5-0 --, and No. 5 Wroe – also ahead 6-0, 5-0, all prepped to be the deciding point themselves.
UP NEXT
The Ducks will host No. 2 Lebanon Valley (who defeated No. 3 Arcadia 4-1 in the other semifinal) in the MAC Freedom Championship on Saturday, exact time and location to-be-determined, seeking a sixth straight conference crown.
