Edgewater, N.J.– The Stevens Institute of Technology women's tennis team won its fifth straight Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom Tournament Championship with a 4-0 win over Lebanon Valley on Saturday.
The Ducks won their 10
th straight conference tournament match dating back to the 2021-22 season and 42
nd straight conference match (regular season and conference tournament) over that same time frame.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Alix Dry and
Kaylee Hobbick took the first of three tightly-contested doubles matches at No. 3, winning 6-3. With
Lorena Piegas and
Wei-Wei Lai trailing 4-5 in their match at No. 1,
Stephanie Untermeyer and
Gigi Arenas clinched the opening point for Stevens (16-2) with a 6-3 win at No. 2.
Arenas' winning ways continued as the sophomore secured the first singles point for the Ducks with a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 6. Untermeyer followed her doubles partner's lead with a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 3, putting the Ducks one match from victory.
With Dry, Piegas, and Lai all up a set, it was Hobbick who clinched the match for the Ducks, winning 6-0, 6-2 at No. 5.
Untermeyer was named the Tournament's Most Valuable Player.
