Rocky Mount, N.C. – The No. 37 Stevens Institute of Technology men's tennis team fell to No. 16 Emory University 4-0 in the Second Round of the NCAA Division III Men's Tennis Tournament on Saturday morning.
The Ducks closed the season with a 15-6 record after advancing to the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament for the fifth consecutive season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Emory (13-10) claimed the doubles point with wins at No. 2 and No. 3.
Ian Batra and
Tristan Wroe battled at the second flight before falling 6-4 to Daniel Kim and John Lasanajak, while
Renat Kramin and
Dhaivik Chenemilla were topped 6-2 at No. 3 by Joshua Lai and Dean Kamenev.
Samvid Andhare and
Max-William Kanz were trailing 5-3 at No. 1 doubles when the point was clinched.
The Eagles extended their lead in singles, taking straight-set wins at No. 3, No. 4 and No. 5 to secure the match. Batra fell 6-0, 6-2 to Kim at No. 3, while Kramin pushed Ajay Kartik in the second set before dropping a 6-3, 6-4 decision at No. 4. Chenemilla was defeated 6-2, 6-2 by Matthew Johnstone at No. 5.
The remaining three singles matches went unfinished. Andhare was battling at the top flight after dropping the first set 6-4 and leading 2-1 in the second. Kanz was down a set at No. 2 but had taken a 3-2 lead in the second after falling 7-5 in the opener. Wroe trailed 6-3, 3-2 at No. 6 when the match was halted.
