Hoboken, N.J. – The Stevens Institute of Technology women's soccer team dropped a 2-0 match to in-state rival and No. 22 ranked Montclair State University on Tuesday evening.

The Ducks (0-3-2) outshot Montclair State 12-0 over the final 45 minutes and earned five second-half corner kicks, but were unable to erase a two-goal halftime deficit. Stevens finished with a 14-5 advantage in shots and a 6-2 edge in corner kicks while putting five attempts on goal.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Montclair State struck just 4:36 into the contest to take an early 1-0 advantage. The visitors doubled their lead less than five minutes later, scoring at the 9:26 mark after Lucy Smith initially made a save on the preceding attempt. Smith made another stop in the 23rd minute to keep the deficit at two.

Stevens began to generate pressure later in the opening half. The Ducks earned their first corner kick in the 35th minute before Madi Chester sent an attempt wide moments later. Mia Sena followed with Stevens' first shot on goal at 35:43, but her attempt was stopped as the Ducks went into halftime trailing 2-0.

Maria O'Brien entered in goal to begin the second half as Stevens immediately began to push forward. Sena recorded an attempt in the 50th minute before Teagan Shay put a shot on frame just over three minutes later. Alana Odom followed with another shot on goal in the 57th minute, while the Ducks earned three corner kicks during a five-minute stretch as they continued to pressure the Montclair State defense.

Stevens continued to control possession and create opportunities as the half progressed. Taylor Truglia sent an attempt high in the 63rd minute before Sena followed with another chance in the 68th. Molly McCann came inches from cutting the deficit in half in the 71st minute, but her shot struck the right post. Odom added another attempt less than two minutes later before Sena forced a save in the 76th minute. Shay put the final opportunity on goal with 12 seconds left, but the attempt was saved to preserve the 2-0 final.
