Hoboken, N.J. – The Stevens Institute of Technology women's soccer team dropped a 2-0 non-conference contest with Penn State-Harrisburg on Saturday afternoon.
The Ducks (0-4-2) matched the Nittany Lions with nine shots (three and six in each half, respectively), generating five corners while conceding only one, but were unable to find the back of the net.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Ducks had two shots before the sixth minute, but attempts by
Alina Friz and
Teagan Shay both sailed wide of the net. Friz had Stevens' first on-target attempt of the day with a long-range attempt in the 41
st minute, but Sydney Mulka was well- positioned for the save.
Three minutes into the second half, off a Friz corner kick, Shay got a foot on a loose ball within three feet of the goal, but a PSU defender headed the ball off the line.
Just over five minutes later, the Nittany Lions drew a foul in the box and converted the ensuing penalty, jumping in front.
The two sides traded seven shots back and forth (four for PSU, three for Stevens) over the following half-hour, with
Mia Sena and Friz forcing saves from PSU keeper Alli Dietz, who came on at the start of the second half.
PSU added an insurance goal in the final three minutes. Stevens generated two corner kicks in the final stretch
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Maria O'Brien made her second appearance and first start of the season in net for the Ducks, recording four saves
- Friz finished with a team-high three shots; Shay and Alana Odom had two shots apiece
- Madi Chester earned her first career start and Mia Sena earned her first start of the season
