Hoboken, N.J. – The Stevens Institute of Technology women's volleyball team swept Oneonta and won in four sets over William Paterson Friday on the first day of the Stevens Quad at Canavan Arena.
Stevens swept the Red Dragons 25-18, 25-13, 25-14, then knocked off the Pioneers 25-21, 21-25, 25-17, 25-19, running their winning streak to eight.
HOW IT HAPPENED - Oneonta
The Ducks took advantage of a rusty Red Dragons squad early on, grabbing four of their first six points off errors. Three
Cadence Sturt service aces in a five-point span quickly turned a 6-4 lead into 11-4, though Oneonta did close back to within four points on three separate occasions. The two sides traded points back and forth throughout the back half of the set with neither side stringing more than three points together from the 11-7 mark through the end of the set.
Ella Boland had four kills among Stevens' final 10 points of a set in which the team hit .333.
Oneonta grabbed an early 7-3 lead in the second, but the Ducks reeled off seven of eight, including five in a row, forcing an Oneonta timeout at the 10-8 mark, with
Julianne Danis notching kills on either side of the timeout. Four straight attack errors and two Danis aces put the Ducks comfortably in front, 17-9, with the cushion not dropping below eight the rest of the way. Sturt followed a Red Dragons service error with an ace to close out the set.

Ella Kraver all had kills in the early stages of the third set, with the Ducks grabbing a 7-3 advantage. Two kills apiece from
Alyssa O'Neal and
Eva Tarolli plus two aces from Sturt left the Ducks up 16-7. As it did in the second set, the lead remained at least eight the rest of the way, with the Ducks getting kills from Danis, McNeill,
Liz Pederson, and
Jenna Hathaway, who had the final kill of the match.
HOW IT HAPPENED – William Paterson
McNeill had a block party to open the match, picking up six (one solo) among the first 11 points for Stevens as the Ducks opened a 12-4 lead. William Paterson came back to lead 18-17 and 19-18, but the Ducks reeled off five straight for a 23-19 lead. The Pioneers got two points back, but Boland and O'Neal closed the set with back to back kills. The Ducks hit just .132 for the set but held William Paterson to a .000 clip.
The second set went back and forth from start to finish, featuring 10 ties amidst a flurry of lead changes. Stevens led 3-0, trailed 5-4, led 8-5 and 13-9, trailed 15-14, and led 18-16 before the Pioneers ended the set on a 9-3 run, leveling the match. Danis had four kills in the frame for Stevens; O'Neal and Boland had two each.
Down 3-0 in the third, Stevens went in front 4-3, courtesy of a Danis kill and three Pioneers errors; four more errors left the Ducks up 9-6, forcing a William Paterson timeout. The Ducks offense went to work from there, with McNeill putting away four kills, Bolduc adding three, and Bolduc adding two more, as the Ducks led by at least two over the final 26 points of the set.
The Ducks fell behind again early in the fourth, conceding the first four, but back-to-back Bolduc kills, an O'Neal kill, and Sturt ace made it 4-all, the first of three ties before either side reached 10 points. At 11-10, a trifecta of William Paterson errors plus an O'Neal ace staked Stevens a 15-10 lead. After the cushion shrunk to a single point at 16-15, two more errors bookending an O'Neal kill pushed the margin back to four, 19-15. Boland, O'Neal, and Bolduc (on match point) added a kill each down the stretch, helping the Ducks close out the match.

The Ducks will wrap their portion of the quad with a 1:30 start tomorrow against Springfield, who reverse swept Oneonta in their lone match on Friday.
