Ava Pelletier scored twice as the No. 14 Stevens Institute of Technology field hockey team rolled past William Paterson University 8-0 on Wednesday afternoon.
The Ducks (5-2) received goals from seven different players and scored in all four quarters while controlling the contest from start to finish. Stevens finished with a 40-0 advantage in shots, including a 29-0 edge in shots on goal, and earned 20 penalty corners.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Stevens wasted little time taking control, generating four shots and a penalty corner in the opening 75 seconds before
Sophia Cozza opened the scoring at the 1:15 mark. The Ducks doubled their advantage just over three minutes later when Cozza set up
Jenna Piantieri for a goal at 4:46. Pelletier made it 3-0 just 49 seconds later, finishing off a feed from
Jenna Mayer. Stevens dominated possession throughout the opening quarter, outshooting William Paterson 16-0 and earning six penalty corners.
The Ducks continued to apply pressure in the second quarter.
Alana Clifford pushed the advantage to four at 21:35, converting off an assist from
Emma Trout. Mayer followed five minutes later, finding the back of the cage at 26:35 to send Stevens into halftime with a 5-0 advantage. The Ducks attempted 14 shots and earned eight penalty corners in the second quarter, giving them a 30-0 advantage in shots through the opening half.
Stevens added another marker in the third quarter when
Brooke Hughes scored at 37:38 to extend the margin to 6-0. The Ducks continued to keep William Paterson without a shot while generating six attempts and four penalty corners in the period.
Taylor Brooks opened the fourth-quarter scoring at 47:06 before Pelletier completed her two-goal performance just over two minutes later.
Julia Katz picked up the assist on Pelletier's second tally as Stevens pushed its advantage to 8-0.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Pelletier led the offense with two goals on five shots, all of which were on target.
- Cozza finished with three points on a goal and an assist, while Mayer also recorded a goal and an assist.
- Clifford, Piantieri, Hughes and Brooks each added a goal, with Katz and Trout contributing assists.
- Stevens' defense did not allow a shot or penalty corner over the 60-minute contest.
- Natalie Ward, Julianna O'Sheal, Maria Dante and Maggie Hilden each played a quarter in goal as the Ducks combined for the shutout without facing a shot.
