Charles Thielmann is in his sixth season in Hoboken and first as associate head coach after earning a promotion in the winter of 2022.
Thielmann has helped guide the Ducks to an average of 24 wins (excluding the abbreviated 2020 campaign), including an average of 15 wins in conference play. The Ducks have decreased their team earned run average by a third-of-a-run since 2018, which also coincided with an 11-win increase over the same time period.Â
Under Thielmann's tutelage, two pitchers - Charles Ruegger andÂ
Anthony Pron - have earned All-Region recognition from the American Baseball Coaches Association, and a total of seven hurlers received All-Conference recognition from either the Empire 8 or Middle Atlantic Conference with one additional pitcher receiving an honorable mention.
In addition to his time on Castle Point, Thielmann also served as the field manager for the Northwoods League's powerhouse, Fon du Lac Dock Spiders. He previously served as the organization's pitching coach before ascending into the managerial role. In addition to his time in the Northwoods League, Thielmann has also served as pitching coach for the Prospect Collegiate League's Springfield Sliders.
Volunteering in the Hoboken community and beyond has been an integral part of the Stevens Baseball experience during Thielmann's tenure. The Ducks have participated in numerous initiatives including Stevens' Duckling Program, the athletic department's Mile City Mentor program, Hoboken Baseball Special Olympics and Hoboken Night Out.
Thielmann has also played a key role in the integration of analytics into the Stevens Baseball experience, helping usher in a modern, data-driven approach to the Ducks day-to-day training regimen. Thanks, in large part, to Thielmann's efforts, Stevens Baseball has been able to stay ahead of the curve, presenting the team's student-athletes with a truly transformative baseball training experience that helps them reach their maximum potential on the mound.
As an undergraduate, Thielmann posted a 24-9 record with a 2.69 ERA, 19 complete games and six saves over four seasons at Kean University. As a sophomore, he was named the Most Outstanding Player of the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional Tournament, while also collecting ABCA/Rawlings Mid-Atlantic Region and New Jersey Athletic Conference Second Team accolades. He earned his bachelor's degree from Kean in communications in 2016.
