Corey Paluga

Hired on September 15, 2009, Corey Paluga enters his fourth season as an assistant coach for the Stevens Institute of Technology baseball team. Paluga, who served as a graduate assistant coach at his alma mater Lynchburg College, will work primarily with catchers, outfielders and hitters, while serving as the team’s recruiting coordinator.

In 2012, Paluga helped Stevens post a 24-18 record, a ten-win improvement from the previous season. Stevens was named the No. 1 seed in the six-team ECAC Metro Tournament and advanced all the way to the tournament's championship game where the Ducks lost 2-1 in extra innings. During the year, Stevens tallied seven wins against regionally ranked teams including triumphs over Ithaca College, St. John Fisher College, Ramapo College and Farmingdale State College, all of which competed in the 2012 NCAA tournament. Stevens' strength of schedule was rated as the 35th most difficult in the nation amongst 371 teams. Individual honors were also impressive during the 2012 season, as the Ducks placed six of its student-athletes on the Empire 8 All-Conference Team, two on the ABCA/Rawlings All-Region Team, two on the D3baseball.com All-Region Team and one on the CoSIDA/Capital One Academic All-America Team. Additionally, a Stevens baseball player was recognized as either the Empire 8 Conference Player or Pitcher of the Week on eight separate occasions - the most in program history. Stevens Baseball also gained recognition when its coaching staff was named the 2012 Empire 8 Co-Coaching Staff of the Year.

In his first season in Cardinal and Gray, Paluga helped the Ducks to a 21-19 overall mark in 2010. Stevens advanced to the semifinal round of the ECAC Metro Championship, while seven Ducks earned Empire 8 All-Conference honors for their efforts.

While at Lynchburg, Paluga worked defensively with catchers and outfielders. He also assisted the team’s pitching coach with conditioning and bullpens. Paluga also organized and directed several camps and clinics, assisted with the scheduling and organizing of away trips, developed and instituted a mandatory study hall for student-athletes and helped oversee the Hornets’ recruiting efforts.

During his three seasons at Lynchburg, the Hornets compiled an 80-45 overall record with a 41-13 league ledger. Lynchburg earned three straight Old Dominion Athletic Conference tournament berths during his tenure as graduate assistant coach, while earning regular-season championships in 2008 and 2009. The Hornets’ record-setting 32-win squad in 2008 earned the program’s first NCAA Regional Tournament bid since 1983 and was ranked as high as 13th in the nation.

In 2009 Paluga was named Head Coach of the New Market Rebels of the Valley Baseball League in New Market, Virginia. The Valley League is one of the top summer collegiate baseball destinations on the East Coast and home to some of the top Division 1 talent in the country. During his two seasons at the helm he led the team to playoff berths in 2010 and 2011. As head coach, Paluga was responsible for the recruitment of college players, game-day management and coaching third base. During his two summers as head coach, Paluga coached four players that have since signed professional contracts. Prior to being named head coach, Paluga had served as the Rebels’ assistant coach in 2009 working with both hitters and catchers, and coaching first base. The Rebels earned a playoff berth in 2009, advanced to the semi-final round, and had three players sign professional contracts.

Paluga, a four-year varsity letterwinner for the Hornets, graduated in 2006 with a degree in Mathematics, and earned his Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership in 2009. Paluga also works part-time for MLB.com and ESPN3.com in their Online Operations department. He also serves as an admissions counselor at Stevens and plays an integral role in the Stevens athletic department assisting the athletic director, Russ Rogers, with NCAA compliance.

He currently resides in Hoboken, New Jersey.
