In the fall of 2012 Stevens Institute of Technology head coach Kristaps Aldins brought back standout baseball player, Denis Ackermann to help coach the pitchers and catchers.

In 2012, Ackermann helped Stevens post a 24-18 record, a ten-win improvement from the previous season. Stevens was named the No. 1 seed in the six-team ECAC Metro Tournament and advanced all the way to the tournament's championship game where the Ducks lost 2-1 in extra innings. During the year, Stevens tallied seven wins against regionally ranked teams including triumphs over Ithaca College, St. John Fisher College, Ramapo College and Farmingdale State College, all of which competed in the 2012 NCAA tournament. Stevens' strength of schedule was rated as the 35th most difficult in the nation amongst 371 teams. Individual honors were also impressive during the 2012 season, as the Ducks placed six of its student-athletes on the Empire 8 All-Conference Team, two on the ABCA/Rawlings All-Region Team, two on the D3baseball.com All-Region Team and one on the CoSIDA/Capital One Academic All-America Team. Additionally, a Stevens baseball player was recognized as either the Empire 8 Conference Player or Pitcher of the Week on eight separate occasions - the most in program history. Stevens Baseball also gained recognition when its coaching staff was named the 2012 Empire 8 Co-Coaching Staff of the Year.

Ackermann, who was a four-year letter winner for the Ducks, graduated in 2012 from Castle Point with a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Civil Engineering, was a two-time All-Empire 8 selection as a student-athlete, including a first-team nod in 2010. He was also named the team’s Most Valuable Player at the conclusion of the 2011 campaign.

As a result of a successful career as a Duck, Ackermann’s name is all over the school’s record book. He ranks in the top-ten of eight different categories for career records, including the third most walks in school history with 81. Ackermann is second all-time in putouts (712) and total chances (848). He also scored the sixth most runs ever at Stevens with 96, his 29 doubles places him seventh, his 144 hits and 194 total bases sit eighth and he is 10th all-time in RBI with 82.

In a single-season, Ackermann’s name comes up three different times on the putout and total chances lists, with his top mark of 202 putouts and 234 chances in 2009.

Ackermann resides in his hometown of Rutherford, N.J.
